A good physical examination should be performed systematically when evaluating an injured athlete. Clinicians should begin the examination of an injured athlete with a thorough history and visual inspection of the area. Research has examined hundreds of special tests for the shoulder, elbow, and knee. This course details a number of special tests that have been proven to be most reliable and accurate for each joint. A consistent routine for injury evaluation is critical for diagnosing and subsequently treating an injured athlete.

Description:

This course will review the evidence-based history of special tests for the knee, shoulder, and elbow. The course will help familiarize you with the sensitivity and specificity of special tests and the most effective combination of tests for injury evaluation.

Objectives:

Describe the history and proper technique for names of shoulder, elbow, and knee examination tests.
Define the statistical validity and accuracy of shoulder, elbow, and knee examination tests including combinations.
Recall an efficient shoulder, elbow, knee physical examination algorithm.
